My Commitment to Animal Welfare in Chamblee

With National Dog Day this week, I wanted to share some of the ways I’ve been working to support animals in our community.
✅ Pet of the Month Program – I partnered with LifeLine Animal Project to create the Pet Council of the Month. At every regular Council meeting, LifeLine introduces an adoptable dog in need of a home. We also share the dog on our social media to bring more visibility. Hershey, pictured below, is the latest adoptable pet, and I’m proud to say we’ve achieved a 100% adoption rate since launching this program.

✅ The Pet Village – Working alongside DeKalb County, CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, Commissioner Michelle Long-Spears, and LifeLine, we expedited permits. We secured the expansion of LifeLine’s property to create the Pet Village, which will drastically reduce overcrowding at the property. I was honored to attend the groundbreaking and look forward to being at the ribbon-cutting soon. You can read more about the pet village here.
✅ Raising Awareness – I’ve partnered with LifeLine to create videos and other efforts to spotlight adoptable dogs and raise awareness for the incredible work they do in our community. I was honored to work with a local Girl Scout on her Gold Award project, featured in the video below. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouts, recognizing young women who identify a community need and lead a sustainable project to create lasting change.
✅ Volunteer Training in Chamblee – I’m currently working with LifeLine to host training for 80–100 volunteers right here in one of our community rooms. This will strengthen the support network for animals in need and give LifeLine more resources to continue its great work.
On a personal note, my two rescue pups, Bailey and Roxy, inspire me every day to keep fighting for animal welfare in Chamblee.
As your Councilmember, I’ll continue to ensure Chamblee is not just a great place for people, but for our pets too!
