Left the Station - This Past Week's Events:
Earth Day: Floating Wetland Trash Trap
In honor of Earth Day, Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, in partnership with the City of Chamblee and with support from Cox Enterprises, installed a "floating wetland trash trap," designed to capture litter, host native wetland plants, and improve water quality in the stream at Huntley Hills Park!
Manufactured by Australian company Atlan Stormwater, the device consists of artificial pods that float on top of the creek. The interconnected pods are anchored in place on both sides of the stream bank to rise and fall with the changing water level, allowing aquatic life to pass under but preventing floating garbage from drifting downstream.
The pods are filled with native wetland plants whose root systems provide habitat and act as natural filters to remove pollutants that wash into the creek every time it rains. The system will improve water quality in this unnamed tributary to Nancy Creek before it flows into the Chattahoochee River, the source of drinking water for millions of people.
This installation at Huntley Hills Park is CRK's 18th trash trap and second floating wetland trash trap in the Chattahoochee River basin.

Citywide Stormwater System Survey & Assessment
Chamblee’s Stormwater Division has engaged a consulting team from Lowe Engineers, with a subconsultant, Atlas, to conduct a Citywide stormwater system survey and assessment. Field work is scheduled to begin in February 2026 and continue through October 2026.
Residents can expect to see field crews out with survey equipment, locating and documenting stormwater assets, such as inlets, manholes, and pipes, in the public right-of-way and from the street to the nearest outfall or stream. They will occasionally need to access private property for this purpose and will have identification.
Regular updates regarding the location of survey crews will be provided via social media. Questions can be directed to the Stormwater Division at stormwater@chambleega.gov.
