Public Hearings
Annexation Rezoning of 2816, 2820, 2822, 2824 Chamblee Tucker Road
A public hearing was held on the proposed annexation and rezoning of 2816, 2820, 2822, and 2824 Chamblee Tucker Road, which includes two hotels and two Waffle House locations. The property owners have requested to join the City of Chamblee, and this hearing marks the first step in that process. We're using the 100% method for annexation, and I’m excited about the opportunity to welcome these businesses into the city. This move will also support our efforts to improve and revitalize the surrounding area. We also held the first read on these properties later in the meeting.
Staff Action Items
3473 Clairmont Road - Taqueria Los Rayos
This property’s a bit unique. It’s a corner lot and a through lot, which means it has street frontage on three sides: Clairmont Road, Skyland Drive, and Buford Highway. So, technically, it doesn’t have a traditional “backyard.”
The owner plans to build a ten-foot-tall brick dumpster enclosure along Buford Highway, situated where the current dumpster is located.
Council APPROVED the plans with conditions.
3477 Chamblee Dunwoody Way - Railway 3477
This one was interesting. The applicant is requesting to open a restaurant and reuse the existing building, but here’s the catch: they don’t plan to have any indoor seating or on-site parking.
The applicant came back this month with a revised and improved plan, which the Council APPROVED with conditions. What kind of food will they be serving? They are still working on the menu, but believe it will be Ukrainian-inspired.
Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with DeKalb County for the Animal Shelter Expansion Project
This IGA was necessary to eliminate some barriers to the building expansion concerning parts of our code which is unnecessary for this type of use. The Council voted unanimously to APPROVE the IGA.
Q4 2024 Budget Amendment Resolution
Every quarter, the Staff presents budget amendments to reflect actual vs projected budgets, and that is what this amendment achieves. Council APPROVED the amendment.
3127 Chamblee Dunwoody Road- Chamblee Dunwoody Crossing
This project was approved back in 2018, and the applicant made some changes to those plans, which meant they needed to come back in front of the Council for approval. The Council APPROVED the two requested waivers.
City Council Communications and Social Media Policy Resolution & Proclamations/Letters of Support Policy Resolution
We’ve been working on these policies for the past six months, and they’re finally ready to move forward. The goal is to create a clear and consistent approach to communications from the Mayor and City Council. This ensures that any public statements reflect the City’s official position, helping us avoid confusion or mixed messages. It’s not aimed at anyone currently on the Council; rather, it’s a proactive step to safeguard the City from potential issues that could arise with future elected officials.
The legal message at the end of this post is an example of this policy. It clearly states that my thoughts are mine and don't represent the rest of the Council.
Interim Planning and Development Director
I'm proud to announce that Vanessa Bernstein Goldman has been APPROVED as the Interim Planning & Development Director. She will lead the department as we actively look for a permanent director.
