September City Council Meeting Recap
The Chamblee City Council met on Tuesday, September 15, and took action on several projects focused on parks, trails, sustainability, and development. From moving the Nancy Creek and Savoy Trail project forward to continuing our partnership with Trees Atlanta, here’s a look at what happened.

A few highlights:
Nancy Creek and Savoy Trail: Council approved a notice of award to Reeves Young, LLC, for the Nancy Creek and Savoy Trail Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) project in the amount of $838,894. This advances one of the City's priority trail projects, creating new opportunities for walking, biking, and connecting neighborhoods.
Front Yard Tree Program: Council approved the annual service agreement renewal with Trees Atlanta, continuing the City's Front Yard Tree Program. Chamblee homeowners can request up to two trees to be planted in their yards at no cost. More info in the next section.
Peachtree Boulevard Gateway: Council authorized the Mayor to execute Task Order 2 for the Peachtree Boulevard Gateway and Realignment Project, allowing the project to move forward.
Mayor's Monarch Pledge: Council adopted the 2026 Mayor's Monarch Pledge, reaffirming the City's commitment to protecting monarch butterflies and supporting pollinator habitats.
Development Requests: Council approved several variance and waiver requests with conditions, including applications for Fifth Third Bank at 5560 Peachtree Boulevard, 5573 Peachtree Road, 2502 Ortega Way, and 5295 New Peachtree Road. Two additional requests were deferred: Paramount CBS Atlanta at 2700 Northeast Expressway until October and Brookhaven Family Dentistry at 3669 North Peachtree Road until November.
Community Recognition and Presentations
The meeting also included several special recognitions and presentations:
Lifeline Animal Project introduced Gardoon, a dog available for adoption.
State Representative Karen Lupton presented Georgia House Resolution 1491 to the Elaine Clark Center, recognizing more than 50 years of service.
Council presented a Heritage Day Proclamation to Chamblee First United Methodist Church in celebration of its 200th anniversary.
The Chamblee Doraville Community Improvement District provided its annual update.

Georgia Recovery Bus Stop in Chamblee
The Georgia Recovers Bus Tour stopped at the Chamblee Police Department as part of National Recovery Month. A Narcan kit, designed to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, was presented to our co-responder, Taisha Porter. The kit will be made accessible to the public in the police department for emergencies. Additional remarks were made on behalf of the City by Mayor Mock and Assistant Police Chief Andrianne Byrd. The program ended with elected officials and officers signing the Georgia Recovers in Communities Bus in solidarity with those in recovery, families impacted by addiction, and allies who support recovery. Prior to the bus stop, the DBHDD hosted a Crisis Response and Intervention Training designed to help Chamblee Police Officers safely and effectively handle calls involving people in behavioral health or developmental crises.

At the Station - Ongoing Events in Chamblee:
Water Transmission Main Replacement Project Update
The southbound right-turn lane from Peachtree Boulevard onto Chamblee Dunwoody Road will be closed from Monday, September 21, through Friday, October 2, weather permitting.
Detour signage will be installed to guide traffic along alternate routes. Motorists traveling south on Peachtree Boulevard should use Ivy Lane to turn onto Chamblee Dunwoody Road. Motorists traveling west on Chamblee Dunwoody Road will continue across Peachtree Boulevard and be directed around the work area.
Normal construction hours will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding major holidays. An increase in construction-related noise and traffic during work hours should be expected.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
From September 15 through October 15, we celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, history, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.
Here in Chamblee, our diversity is one of the things that makes our community so vibrant. This month, we're proud to recognize the people, families, businesses, and traditions that continue to make Chamblee a welcoming place for everyone.
Front Yard Tree Program
Join the Trees Atlanta Front Yard Tree Program! Chamblee homeowners can request a maximum of two trees to be planted in their yard at no cost. Planting season runs from October 2026 through March 2027. Submit an application via www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree.
2026 Road Repaving
The City of Chamblee is improving your commute one street at a time by repaving 21 streets from mid-August to mid-October. The Public Works team has placed signs at the locations where street paving will take place. Check the posted paving schedule above for dates and locations.
The City is spending $2.6 million on street repaving. Of the $2.6 million, the City is utilizing $780,000 in Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant funding through the Georgia Department of Transportation and $1,820,000 in Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funding to complete this project.
Chamblee Introduces Curbside Composting
The City of Chamblee is partnering with CompostNow to bring curbside composting to all residents starting this October! For just $19 per month (plus a one-time $19 startup fee), you can divert food scraps from the landfill and turn them into nutrient-rich compost.
Why Compost?
Over 50% of what ends up in landfills is organic material that could be composted. In a landfill, that organic waste generates methane, a greenhouse gas 84 times more potent than CO₂. Composting diverts those materials and transforms them into finished compost instead.
When finished compost is added to local soil, it sequesters carbon, improves water retention, reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, and improves the nutrient value of our food.
When we build local compost systems for cycling nutrients back into the soil, we improve the climate resiliency of the community and create equitable opportunities for our local growers who strengthen our food supply chains and provide access to fresh, healthy food.

Chamblee Arts Master Plan Survey
Chamblee is now updating its 2019 Arts Master Plan! The new five-year plan will reflect our community's priorities for public art, arts and culture events and programs, and more. Citywide Stormwater System Survey & Assessment
Chamblee’s Stormwater Division has engaged a consulting team from Lowe Engineers and its sub consultant, Atlas, to conduct a Citywide stormwater system survey and assessment. Fieldwork began in February 2026 and is expected to continue through October 2026.
Residents can expect to see field crews out with survey equipment, locating and documenting stormwater assets, such as inlets, manholes, and pipes, in the public right-of-way and from the street to the nearest outfall or stream. Crews may occasionally need to access private property for this purpose and will carry identification.
Regular updates regarding the location of survey crews will be provided via social media. Questions can be directed to the Stormwater Division at stormwater@chambleega.gov.

September 24: Public Art Commission Meeting
The Chamblee Public Art Commission will meet on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Chamblee City Hall. The meeting will be livestreamed on the City's website, Facebook Page, and YouTube channel.
