The Locomotive - One Big Thing:

Trails in Chamblee

Back in 2022, the City Council set a bold goal: to connect all of Chamblee’s neighborhoods through an integrated network of paths. That vision took a major step forward with the adoption of the Chamblee Trail Master Plan in April 2023.

The plan outlines a network of four key trail zones:

  • Northside Loop

  • Westside Connector

  • Southside Connector

  • Eastside Connector

These segments are designed to strategically link parks, MARTA stations, schools, and commercial centers like Plaza Fiesta, downtown, and Assembly Atlanta. The trail’s 12-foot paved lanes, thoughtfully placed crosswalks, benches, and signage create a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable environment for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

Why This Matters for Chamblee

  1. Connectivity — The trail network stitches together neighborhoods, green spaces, transit, and business hubs, making the city more navigable and accessible on foot or by bike.

  2. Economic Vitality — By drawing more foot traffic, the trail boosts visibility for nearby businesses and supports the ongoing revitalization of downtown Chamblee.

  3. Livability — The combination of functional infrastructure and community-focused design fosters healthier lifestyles, social interaction, and gets people out of their cars!

Recent Progress & What’s Next

The next section of trail development is already underway. The Keswick Park Trail Spur, which will extend from the Keswick softball field to Sexton Woods Drive, is expected to be completed by August. The photo below was taken on June 10, and I’ll be sharing weekly updates so residents can track progress. Please note that weather conditions may affect the timeline. The recently approved Park and Trail Bond will help jump-start the next chapter of trail expansion, providing crucial funding to bring the master plan to life. I will share those plans as soon as they are available.

Hear ye and rejoice! Tis I, Jimmy, of the Chamblee ruling class here to placate you, the peasantry, with platitudes and selfies! Another busy week of faux transparency, backroom dealings, and taking credit where none is due! Did I read your incessant and ungrateful complaints regarding our mismanagement of the city?! You bet I did! And how you shall be punished for it! Starting today we the rulers will double down on our double talk and promise to make your life more difficult! LONG LIVE THE BUREAUCRACY! I have also decreed that we must institute a city policy of automated electronic mail replies because you peasants are becoming quite the irritation! Who are you to demand action and resp…
