Catch up on all things Chamblee!
The Locomotive - One Big Thing:
Immigration Raids
As many of you know, ICE conducted immigration raids conducted along the Buford Highway Corridor in Chamblee and neighboring cities. This is a dense topic and one that deserves its own blog post. Please see the City's statement below:
"The City of Chamblee understands that recent changes in the immigration enforcement procedures at the federal level have caused uncertainty and anxiety for some in our community. Chamblee police were not involved in the incidents over the weekend. Chamblee continues to be a community that supports and welcomes all of those who live and work in our city. We are proud to be a city comprised of different races, cultures, ethnicities, beliefs, backgrounds, origins, and walks of life. While we appreciate the legal complexities implicated by immigration enforcement laws and the importance of national security, Chamblee must comply with the laws of the state and federal government. Chamblee will continue to treat all members of our community with compassion, respect and empathy."

January 29: CPD Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting 6 PM at City Hall
January 30: Public Hearing #1 – HB581 Opt-Out Noon at City Hall
The City of Chamblee will consider opting out of the statewide adjusted base year ad valorem homestead exemption. The City of Chamblee has scheduled three public hearings, which is a prerequisite for a municipality to consider opting out of the changes to the statewide floating homestead exemption.
House Bill 581 was passed by the Georgia General Assembly during the 2024 legislative session and was signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp on April 18, 2024. Voters approved the referendum on the floating homestead exemption in November 2024. Under the new structure of HB 581, there are three changes:
