Jimmy's Commitment to Parks & Rec

As many of you know, I'm on the Recreation Advisory Committee (RAC) and a member of Keep Chamblee Beautiful. I've had the opportunity to work on multiple projects to improve the parks systems for the City of Chamblee during my time with both organizations. For instance, I've worked on beautification projects in the city's parks, removing invasive species, cleaning up trash, and planting native trees and plants.

Additionally, I've conducted yearly evaluations of the parks offering strategic direction on needed improvements. One example is Village Park on Chamblee Dunwoody, which has seen a remarkable transformation which you can see in these pictures. We added a community garden, a new playground, and a new playing field. This was a team effort, and the RAC committee was instrumental in shaping this vision for this park along with the Parks Department. I’m proud of the work we have done together.

I helped develop the Park Master Plan in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Dept. The plan can be found here: https://www.chambleega.com/479/Parks-Master-Plan. We have an opportunity with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to significantly shorten the Park Master Plan's time horizon. With these funds, we can add turf fields to our parks, expanding the number of fields in the city. Moreover, these funds may lead to the long discussed Dresden Utility Line Trail further connecting the city. Ultimately, the City Council will have to approve these projects.

A robust parks system is key to the quality of life in Chamblee and a fundamental tenet of my campaign. If I have the honor of your vote and win this election, I will continue to support the Parks and Rec department to my highest capacity.

The Next RAC meeting is on October 7th, so please send me any questions, comments, or concerns about our Parks and Rec Dept.
