Catch up on all things Chamblee!

The Locomotive - One Big Thing:

SGT. Loc Tran

This has been a tough week for the Chamblee Police Department. My thoughts are with SGT. Tran and his family.

Our officers have my full support and gratitude for the work they do every day to keep our community safe. We stand with you. More on Sergeant Tran below:

Sergeant Loc Dang Tran, a devoted son, brother, dog dad, Army veteran, and, most recently, a Criminal Investigations Sergeant with the Chamblee Police Department, was born on May 18, 1983, in Saigon, Vietnam, to Mong Hoa Thi Tran. He passed away on January 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and police family.

At the age of three, Loe immigrated to the United States from Vietnam and was raised in Conyers.Georgia. His early journey to America as a Vietnamese refugee shaped the quiet strength and resilience that would define his life, instilling in him a lifelong sense of gratitude, perseverance, and quiet courage.

At age 18, Loc proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving from July 2002 to July 2007 as an Army Pharmacy Specialist. During his military service, he worked in troop medical clinics, combat support hospitals, and medical centers, providing critical medical and pharmaceutical care to both military and civilian personnel. During this time, he was deployed for one year in Baghdad, Iraq, in 2005.

Following his honorable military service, Loc continued his commitment to public service with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office before graduating from the Piedmont Technical College Police Academy in December 2o1o. Shortly thereafter, he began his career with the Chamblee Police Department. Throughout his time at Chamblee, Loc steadily rose through the ranks, serving as a detective, Uniform Division Sergeant, and ultimately earning promotion to Criminal Investigations Sergeant in May 2024.

In his personal life, Loc remained deeply devoted to caring for others. Outside of work, he spent his time supporting his mother, Mong Hoa, his sister, Theresa, his brother Stephen, and doting on his beloved German Shepherd puppy, Patrick. Loc appreciated a simple, quiet life surrounded by his creature comforts. He enjoyed football (Go Dawgs), building 3D models, and relaxing in his recliner with his dogs close by.

Survivors include his mother, Mong Hoa; sister, Theresa; brother, Stephen; and his five-month-old German Shepherd puppy, Patrick, along with many loving relatives, friends, and his extended Chamblee Police Department family.

Through more than 15 years of service, Sergeant Tran embodied the true meaning of "protect and serve." He showed up every day with integrity, respect, dignity, and compassion. Loc dedicated his life to helping others, and those privileged to know him will forever cherish his kind heart, beautiful soul, and endlessly giving nature.
