The Locomotive - One Big Thing:

City of Chamblee Awarded Financial Accountability Award for 10th Year

I'm proud to win this award for the 10th year in a row. Every time Julie Pero, Chamblee's Finance Director, presents her yearly review, it's short, which is a good thing. Why? Because a long report means issues were found. Below is our PR release.

The City of Chamblee has again received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

This is the tenth consecutive year the City has earned the award, which is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized as a recipient of this award for the tenth consecutive year,” said Julie Pero. “Our mission is to provide effective stewardship over public funds and assets and to provide financial management leadership for the city government. We’re proud to continue building on a tradition of transparency and communication with the public.”

Chamblee’s comprehensive annual financial report for the 2023 Fiscal Year was reviewed by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. The City of Chamblee’s Comprehensive Annual Finance Reports can be found here.

Left the Station - This Past Week's Events:

February 21: Chamblee Arbor Day Celebration

The City of Chamblee celebrated Arbor Day in the City Hall parking lotThe event featured tree plantings and an Arbor Day proclamation reading by city staff. The city also provided a limited number of giveaway trees while supplies lasted. More good news! Arbor Day Foundation named Chamblee a 2024 Tree City USA in honor of its commitment to planting, growing, and maintaining trees to benefit its community.

February 21: Chamblee Arbor Day Celebration

The National Association of Chinese Americans (NACA) hosted a gala on February 22, 2025, at Canton House in Duluth, Georgia, to celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Snake. The City of Chamblee was a sponsor and I had the opportunity to attend the celebration! The event drew approximately 300 guests, and some heavy hitters such as Senator Raphael Warnock, who delivered greeting remarks.

The evening featured cultural performances, including lion dances, classical Chinese dance (and some K-pop), and some delicious food. Carlos Pagoaga, president of the Coca-Cola Foundation, delivered the keynote address. Our own Mayor Mock was the event's MC!
