City Council Regular Meeting Recap - October 15, 202

Writer: Jimmy FurstJimmy Furst

Below is my recap of the latest Council Meeting with my thoughts, which don't represent the Mayor or the rest of the Council.

You can find the agenda and video by clicking here.

LifeLine Animal Showcase

This month's Council dog brought us Mamma Bear! She had a litter when brought to Lifeline, hence the name.

Ordinances - 2nd Read

Low Impact Film Ordinance Amendment

The ordinance had its second Read and was subsequently unanimously ADOPTED by the Council. This ordinance cleaned up the language of the previous Low Impact Film Ordinance on the books.

Staff Action Items

Please see my last recap for more details on the following items.

PFA Bond Resolution

APPROVED as presented by staff.

Purchase of New Bucket Truck

APPROVED as presented by staff

Comprehensive Plan Update Adoption

APPROVED as presented by staff.

1909 CHANCERY LANE – STREAM BUFFER VARIANCE

APPROVED with conditions.

3443 KESWICK COURT – STREAM BUFFER VARIANCE

DEFERRED until the November work session.

I don't get any joy from variance hearings discussing what people can and can't put in their backyards. I would rather work on items that will move Chamblee forward, such as sustainability and comprehensive plans. However, this is the local government and part of the gig. These hearings are the only chance we have to ask questions, and they are often direct. I will say that the questions may be probing, but they are not personal. They are never personal. We are trying to gather all the facts to find an equitable solution for the applicant, the City, and the rest of the residents of Chamblee. Sometimes, this is easy to accomplish; other times, it's very complicated.
